This picture is just one of many that I had the pleasure of working on. Many images of Mr. Draper during WW2 and with his family.
This heavily damaged photo of him as a child was a concern. We decided to at least try and take off the tape and see what we could do. Luckily the tape was removed and the picture surface was cleaned with no other damage. From there we had to scan all three pieces and put it back together. The process was routine and with patience and skill the restoration worked.
Pictures from this era present many problems from fading, colour shifting, silvering and physical damage. The advantage is that the photographic process has made many of these priceless heirlooms last for over 100 years. I will showcase a photograph of my great grandfather in my next blog.
